The Challenge
The biggest challenge was capturing the unique spirit of Keli Lucas. Her brand was built on a raw, hands-on, and often chaotic NYC artist lifestyle that worked well on Instagram, but was difficult to package for a professional portfolio. Her world was grungy, filled with everything from scribbled-on receipts, works on paper, to powerful expressionistic portraits. The goal was to translate that world into a clean, organized website without it feeling generic. We needed to create something that would appeal to high-end clients while staying true to the raw creativity that made her popular in the first place.
This meant working very closely with Keli to pinpoint her style and figure out how to represent it online. Standard web portfolio looks were too boring and wouldn't do her work justice. To bring her vision to life, I knew the site needed to be an experience. It has to be more creative and interactive. That's why I decided to learn Three.js, a 3D library for websites. Learning this new skill was a project in itself, but it was necessary to build the custom 3D features, like the interactive floating frame, that would become the main attraction of the site and make it feel as unique as her art.
